When The Daedalus Incident was finally out in bookstores last August, I did a post listing the acknowledgements as printed in the book, as well as an update; if you remember, getting Daedalus out the door was a rather memorable process, and I wanted folks to know they were appreciated. So with past as precedent, I thought I’d publish my acknowledgements for The Enceladus Crisis as well, because there’s lots of people who helped with this book as well, and they deserve a shout out.

Today’s the big day: The Enceladus Crisis has been released into the wild. All you folks who pre-ordered the book (thank you!) now have it in your hands and/or electronic devices. I hope you enjoy the heck out of it.

Lots of folks were busy on Facebook and Twitter and blogs today, talking about the  book. Thank you all, so very much! I’ve gotten a lot of support from all kinds of people, including fans. I know, right? I have fans. Plural. Still trying to wrap my head around that one. But they’re awesome, and I appreciate the support. And if you’re of a mind to spread the word further, I’d be mighty grateful!

A few bits of news: Audible now has a snippet of the audiobook up for your listening pleasure. The audiobook is narrated by Bernard Clark and Kristin Kalbli, the same folks who did an outstanding job on The Daedalus Incident. Give it a listen.

The Enceladus Crisis Goodreads giveaway is over, sadly, but we had more than 400 people sign up for it. If you were one of the 10 lucky winners, congratulations! If not, well, I expect we’ll do another giveaway at some point, either on Goodreads or elsewhere.

It’s officially launch week for The Enceladus Crisis! I’m very excited to see this one come out, and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it.

To kick things off, I took Tor.com’s Pop Quiz at the End of the Universe, which is probably the best name for an author interview series in the history of such things. I talk about the book, of course, but also lots more fun stuff, like what I’d take with me to a desert island and which robot sounds are the best. Many thanks to Tor.com for all the support.

Also, the Goodreads giveaway of The Enceladus Crisis ends at midnight Pacific time. There are ten copies up for grabs on Goodreads, so if you’re reading this before midnight, hurry up and get clicking. And if you’re reading this on Tuesday or later, you’ll have to get your book at a store like other people.

There’s only a few days left before The Enceladus Crisis hits bookshelves, so I thought it’d be good to have all the pertinent info about the book and my other work in an easy-to-reference post — especially for folks stumbling across this blog, and my books, via the guest posts, excerpts and interviews coming over the next few weeks. Click on the book titles for summaries and jacket copy and fun stuff like that. So…here we go.

The Enceladus Crisis, published by Night Shade Books, is the sequel to The Daedalus Incident, my debut novel. Publishers Weekly called Enceladus “rivieting…a uniquely imaginative science fantasy tale,” and SFSignal said “the sequel continues the first novel’s mix of alchemy, intrigue, mystery, science fiction and high adventure into an entertaining package.” GeekDad and Amazing Stories liked it too. You can get The Enceladus Crisis at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, iTunes, Google Play and through your local independent bookseller (check out IndieBound for your nearest indie bookseller). The audiobook is available via Audible, too. 

The Daedalus Incident, for its part, turned out to be a pretty good debut, having been named one of the best SF/F books of 2013 by Library Journal and BuzzFeed. Folks seemed to like it. Now, do you need to read The Daedalus Incident before reading The Enceladus Crisis? I wrote Enceladus with enough callbacks to the first novel so that, if you stick with it, you won’t need to read Daedalus to enjoy it. That said, I do think folks who read Daedalus will have a leg up. That’s pretty normal, though, when it comes to series. Click here for a list of vendors carrying Daedalus, including e-book and audiobook.

So far, Daedalus and Enceladus are the two official books in the Daedalus series. The third, titled The Venusian Gambit, is due out next year, and I’m in the midst of writing it now. There’s also a self-published e-novella, The Gravity of the Affair, that’s set in the Known Worlds of the series, but it’s a stand-alone story. It’s on sale for $0.99 right now, and I’m not sure how long I’m going to keep it there, so get cracking. There’s also an audiobook version of Gravity as well.

The word spreads: Kirkus Reviews placed The Enceladus Crisis among the best speculative fiction reads coming out in May. Reviewer John DeNardo added that Enceladus may work well for fans of classic literature looking to branch out into science fiction and fantasy, noting that it’s the second book “in an exciting series of books described as ‘Horatio Hornblower in space.'” Which, really, is a pretty spot-on description.

Also worth noting: Tor.com listed The Enceladus Crisis among the month’s new releases as well, which is a great thing given that so many fans of SF/F read the site religiously.

Again, it’s worth noting that while Amazon and other online outlets have begun shipping The Enceladus Crisis to preorder customers, the book won’t be available in ebook or audiobook until May 6. And I don’t think it’ll be on bookstore shelves until then, either — but if you see it out there beforehand, do let me know!

For those who’ve seen the back cover of The Enceladus Crisis, it’s no secret that GeekDad rather liked the book. But it’s still nice to see the full review, which hit the Internet today. Reviewer James Floyd Kelly writes:

The Enceladus Crisis is in my house, and it’s fabulous. Of course, since I wrote it, I get first dibs on copies.

On another note, congrats to all the Hugo and Campbell award nominees! This was my first time voting, and I was excited to see some of my choices make the short list. There were many worthy nominees, and I look forward to reading them. I recognize that there are some nominees that are controversial, and since I keep well upwind from controversy, I’m just going to focus on the works and the good stuff. And that’s all I got to say about that.
